@lorne1947, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Setting up your HP DeskJet 2855e printer using a USB connection involves installing the necessary drivers and connecting the printer to your computer. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you through the process:

Prepare the Printer:

  • Ensure that your printer is powered on.
  • Remove any packaging material from the printer, including tapes and safeguards, if it's not already done.

Install Ink Cartridges and Load Paper:

  • Install the ink cartridges included with your printer.
  • Load plain, white paper into the input tray.

Software Installation:

For Windows:

  • Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads, enter your printer model, and download the recommended drivers.
  • Run the downloaded driver installation file.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions. You will be prompted when to connect the USB cable. Connect it at this time.

For macOS:

  • Connect the USB cable from your printer to your computer.
  • macOS should automatically detect the printer and download the necessary software.

Connect Printer with USB Cable:

  • Plug one end of the USB cable into the USB port on the back of the printer and the other end into an available USB port on your computer.

Complete the Setup:

  • Your computer should finalize the installation by detecting the printer. Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the printer setup process.

Print a Test Page:

  • After the setup is complete, try printing a test page to ensure that the printer is functioning correctly.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
