I have a new HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e that will print double-sided only by flipping on the short edge, even when I choose "flip on long edge" or when I try to not do double-sided printing.  I do not have the technological skills to reinstall this printer or follow a long list of confusing instructions.  I expect a new product to work correctly.  I see others have had the same issue, but still can't find how to solve it.

Hi @jugpe

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your frustration with your new HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e not printing double-sided correctly. It seems like despite choosing the "flip on long edge" option, it continues to print double-sided but flips on the short edge, which is not what you're expecting. Let's try some straightforward troubleshooting steps to get it working properly:

1. Check Printer Settings on Your Computer

When you choose to print double-sided, ensure you're selecting the correct option for "flip on long edge". Here's how you can double-check the settings:

  • Open the document you want to print.
  • Go to Print (Ctrl + P).
  • In the Print Settings or Properties window, look for a section called "Print on Both Sides" or "Duplex Printing".
  • Select Flip on Long Edge.
  • Sometimes, the printer might still default to "flip on short edge" based on the document size or application you’re using, so ensure it's set correctly for each print job.

2. Check Paper Type and Size

The type of paper you’re using (size and thickness) can affect how the printer handles double-sided printing:

  • Make sure the paper size is correctly selected in both the printer settings on your computer and on the printer itself (i.e., Letter, A4).
  • If the paper size or type is incorrect, it might cause the printer to select an incorrect duplex option.

3. Use HP Smart App (if applicable)

If you’re using the HP Smart App to manage your printer:

  • Open the app and go to your printer’s settings.
  • Look for any Duplex Printing or Two-Sided Printing options and ensure it’s set to flip on the long edge.Update Printer Firmware

Sometimes, issues like these can be caused by outdated printer firmware:

  • Check if there’s any firmware update available for your HP OfficeJet Pro 9120e.
  • To update the firmware, go to the HP Support website, search for your printer model, and follow the instructions to download and install the latest firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
