I am close to junking this printer or selling it on ebay with a list of all the things that are not right with it. My main laptop is an HP Elitebook, and you'd think the two would work together. Sometimes it works if I power it down, sometimes it works if I use HP Smart, though its current state under HP Smart shows it needs to "finish Setup" which does nothing if I click on it. I entered this state after my wife used the printer to print off a number of documents from her laptop, but then I ran out of paper and although I filled the paper tray what printed after was half a page. It is now offline with a "Finish Setup" on the HP Smart.

Have to say that this is the second HP printer I have that I've had problems with. The last was a Officejet 8210 that gave out weird colours and was told the printer cannot be repaired, so I foolishly bought another (duh).

I want it fixed ar I want HP to take it away and return my money. Never had so much hassle with a Canon or Epsom.

Hi @heawill,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your printer shows “Finish Setup,” goes offline, and only prints occasionally. Let’s go through a few checks.

Reset printer network setup

Turn the printer on.

Open Setup > Network Settings on the printer control panel.

Select Restore Network Settings.

Wait for the wireless light to blink.

Restart the printer.

Reconnect the printer

Open the HP app on your computer.

Select Add Printer or Set Up a New Printer.

Choose the printer in setup mode.

Connect it to your Wi-Fi network.

Wait until the printer shows Ready status.

Clear print queue and status

Open Printers & scanners on the computer.

Select the printer and open the print queue.

Cancel all print jobs.

Ensure “Use Printer Offline” is not selected.

Print a test page.

Complete setup from Embedded Web Server

Print a Network Configuration Report to find the printer IP address.

Enter the IP address into a web browser.

Open Settings or Web Services.

Confirm setup or registration prompts are completed.

Restart the printer.

Check paper and print job interruption

Remove paper from the tray.

Reload paper aligned to the guides.

Confirm no paper fragments remain inside.

Print a one-page document.

Verify printing completes normally.

Note: A “Finish Setup” message typically appears when printer network registration or web services setup was interrupted.
