Hi @RenfroValley,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand encountering error messages with LD-compatible ink cartridges on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 printer, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
- Reinstall Cartridges: Sometimes, simply removing and reinstalling the cartridges can resolve connectivity issues. Make sure the cartridges are properly seated in their respective slots.
- Clean Cartridge Contacts: Ink residue or dust may accumulate on the cartridge contacts over time, causing poor connectivity. Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water to gently wipe the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer.
- Reset the Printer: Power off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for a few minutes. Then, plug it back in and power it on. This can reset the printer's internal settings and potentially resolve the error.
- Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 printer. Sometimes, firmware updates include bug fixes and compatibility improvements that could resolve issues with third-party cartridges.
- Try Genuine HP Cartridges: While LD compatible cartridges are designed to work with your printer model, using genuine HP cartridges can help determine if the issue lies with the cartridges themselves or with the printer's hardware or settings.
- Check Printer Settings: Ensure that the printer settings are configured correctly and that no restrictions or settings are preventing the use of third-party cartridges.
- Inspect Cartridges: If the error persists, inspect the LD-compatible cartridges for any visible defects or damages. There may be an issue with the cartridges themselves.
You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.
There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why it's not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.
