When I select to print a document, the printer turns on from the sleep mode but requires me to physically press the OK button on the printer to actually print the document. I used to simply select print and the document I selected would print without having to press the OK button. Since I am an OBVIOUS novice... please describe the place to go to fix this and the detailed step by step procedure to accomplish this task. Do not ASSUME I have any knowledge about this matter as I have noticed some "solutions" responses are written like I have the same level of knowledge as the person responding... major error!

Hi @DonEwals,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that you are facing issues with your printer.
If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw printer is turning on from sleep mode but requires you to physically press the OK button on the printer to actually print the document, it may be due to a setting or configuration issue. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Check Sleep Settings: Access the printer's settings menu and check the sleep settings. Ensure that the sleep mode settings are not set to "Manual" or "On" which may require manual intervention to wake the printer.
Update Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer on the HP website. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve issues with sleep mode and printing.
Click here to update the firmware.
Reset Printer: Perform a reset on the printer to restore it to its factory settings. Follow the steps below.
Restore the printer settings to factory-set defaults
- On the printer control panel, press the button.
- Open the following menus: ● Service ● Restore Defaults
- Touch or press the OK button. The printer automatically restarts.
Check Power Settings on Computer: Ensure that the power settings on your computer are not causing the printer to enter sleep mode or require manual intervention to print.
If none of the above steps work, it may indicate a more issue with the printer. In this case, it's best to contact HP phone support.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Most likely issue is that the paper size or type set on the printer does not match the job settings. Common issue is paper size for the job is not a standard paper size. Example, job wants to print on A4 and printer has letter size as setting. Download the user guide from support.hp.com for information on settings.
