Hi @Letty34,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you want to know whether your HP LaserJet P5105n and HP Envy Inspire printers will work before upgrading your MacBook Pro to macOS 26. Let’s go through a few checks to understand compatibility and risks.

Understand macOS 26 printer driver changes
macOS 26 no longer supports many legacy printer drivers.
Older printers that rely on HP-specific drivers may not install or function after the upgrade.

Check HP LaserJet P5105n compatibility
The HP LaserJet P5105n is a legacy model and does not have an HP driver supported for macOS 26.
This printer does not support AirPrint, so macOS cannot use built-in drivers automatically.

Test generic printing methods (limited support)
In some cases, macOS may allow adding the printer using a generic PCL or IP/Bonjour method.
Even if it adds successfully, printing may be unreliable or not work at all.

Understand Envy Inspire compatibility
HP Envy Inspire printers are newer models and typically support AirPrint.
AirPrint allows macOS 26 to print without installing HP drivers, usually with basic print functionality.

Check current setup before upgrading
If the LaserJet P5105n is critical, keep at least one Mac on your current macOS version.
Upgrading may permanently prevent this printer from being used on macOS 26.

Consider network vs USB connection
USB connections for older printers are less likely to work on macOS 26.
Network printing via AirPrint or IP is more reliable for supported models like the Envy Inspire.

Test with another macOS 26 system if possible
If you have access to another Mac already running macOS 26, test printing first.
This avoids risking your primary system.

I hope this helps.

Thank you! I have saved your response to look into options, but this is exactly what I feared (as it happened to me before with an OS upgrade😠 & I had to get ride of a perfectly good printer--which I had recently bought an expensive cartridge for as well. Of course! I do have another Mac which I waited too long to update the OS that it can no longer go online because it is considered too vulnerable for the internet🫤, which makes it really hard ro upgrade since OS can only be upgraded via downloads... But if I can figure out how to access & download an OS upgrade for it, on my newer computer, & move it over to the old computer, perhaps I can use that one for things I print a lot, connected to the older printer--IF there is at least a workaround for the Envy Inspire. I have updated to os26.2 on my tablet, phone & watch & believe these print to the Inspire...

Sadly even Word will not allow upgrades to my newer mac until I upgrade its software, & it's hard to find the intermediary non-os26 upgrades for this. I waited on it as well because there is always a horrid chain reaction of issues whenever I have upgraded my OS on my apple laptops... WHY they won't just put in the security patches of os26 to other earlier OSs, I don't understand. Unless just for the greater ability that one has of getting lots of data from us... (hence the need to know what to turn off in settings!)

It is a mess I will deal with later, thanks to you I know I havoc to & have some things to check out in advance. 🙏🏻
