Hi @KK003,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP laptop isn't recognizing the USB device despite the light on the USB indicating it's receiving power, here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue.
- Check USB ports: Try connecting the USB device to different USB ports on your laptop. Sometimes, specific ports may have issues, so testing on multiple ports can help determine if the problem is isolated to one port.
- Check USB device on another computer: To rule out any issues with the USB device itself, try connecting it to another computer to see if it's recognized. If it works on another computer, then the problem likely lies with your HP laptop.
- Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Try restarting your HP laptop and then reconnect the USB device to see if it's recognized.
- Update USB drivers: Ensure that your USB drivers are up to date. You can do this by going to the Device Manager, locating the USB controllers section, and then right-clicking on each USB controller and selecting "Update driver."
- Check for Windows updates: Make sure your Windows operating system is up to date. Sometimes, updating Windows can resolve compatibility issues with USB devices.
- Disable USB Selective Suspend: USB Selective Suspend is a power-saving feature that can sometimes cause issues with USB devices. You can disable it by going to Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings > USB settings > USB selective suspend setting, then set both 'On battery' and 'Plugged in' to Disabled.
- Scan for hardware changes: In the Device Manager, right-click on your computer name at the top of the list and select "Scan for hardware changes." This can sometimes prompt Windows to recognize the USB device.
- Check for physical damage: Inspect the USB ports on your laptop and the USB connector of the device for any physical damage. Bent pins or debris in the port can prevent proper connectivity.
- Try a different USB cable: If the USB device uses a detachable cable, try using a different cable to connect it to your laptop. The cable itself may be faulty.
- Check BIOS settings: In some cases, USB functionality might be disabled in the BIOS settings. Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS (usually by pressing F2, F10, or Del during startup), then look for any USB-related settings and ensure they are enabled.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
