When installing my new HP smart tank 5106 printer, I filled the blue reservoir with yellow ink, how can I fix this?

Hi @Pieter17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I see that you are looking for help with removing ink from the ink tanks on your Printer.

If you have accidentally filled the wrong color ink in one of the tanks of your smart tank printer, you can try to drain it out by following these steps:

  1. Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Open the ink tank cover and carefully remove the ink tank containing the wrong color ink.
  3. Use a syringe or an ink extractor tool to remove the ink from the tank. Be careful not to damage the tank or spill the ink.
  4. Dispose of the wrong color ink properly and clean the tank with a lint-free cloth or tissue.
  5. Refill the tank with the correct color ink and reinsert it into the printer.
  6. Close the ink tank cover and turn on the printer.

Dear Irwin6,

wat do you mean with under 4.

  1. Dispose of the wrong color ink properly and clean the tank with a lint-free cloth or tissue.

I have bought a ink extractor so i'm able to put the ink back in the bottle for reuse.

2de clean the tank with a lint free cloth....  you mean the outside of the tank, spils?  the inner is not able to be cleaned.  My question is therefore whether all the ink will be removed, and is advisable to flush with, for example, printer head cleaner, and of course suck up this liquid again to be disposed   Thanks for reply,   Pieter17.

Hi @Pieter17,

Where you able to remove the ink from the tank?

In few printer models you might not be able to use a lint free cloth to completely clear the ink from the tank.
