HP product no. is F8B04A. Message is scanning unsuccessful due to one or all of the following, cable connection to laptop or web connection, etc. I don't really want the internet connection, just the usb suits me fine. I have uninstalled the printed and installed it a couple of times using the HP site for support. software, printer, download, but nothing worked.
Hope you can help.

Hi @Cranston,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're encountering issues while trying to install your HP Envy 5660 printer on your Dell laptop running Windows 11, using a USB connection. Let's go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.
Check USB Cable and Ports
Ensure the USB cable connecting the printer to the laptop is firmly plugged in on both ends. Try using a different USB port on your Dell laptop to rule out any port-related issues. Also, check the USB cable for any visible damage, and if possible, try using a different cable.
Remove Previous Printer Installations
Since you've already uninstalled the printer, let's make sure there are no remnants left from previous installations:
- Open Control Panel and go to Devices and Printers.
- If the HP Envy 5660 printer is still listed, right-click on it and select Remove device.
- Then, go to Device Manager (right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager), and under Printers, ensure that there is no entry for the printer. If there is, right-click and uninstall it.
Install Printer Using the Latest Driver
Since you mentioned that you've already tried downloading the software from the HP website, let's do a fresh install:
- Download the latest driver directly from the HP support site for your printer model (HP Envy 5660). Use this link: HP Envy 5660 Drivers and Software.
- Run the downloaded setup file.
- During installation, select the USB connection option when prompted (since you don’t want an internet connection).
Disable Windows Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily
Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can interfere with the printer installation process. Try temporarily disabling them while installing the printer. After installation, you can turn them back on.
Check Windows 11 Printer Settings
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Go to Devices > Printers & Scanners and ensure that the HP Envy 5660 is listed.
- If it’s not listed, click Add a printer or scanner, and Windows should try to find your printer connected via USB.
Test the Printer with the USB Cable
Once the installation is complete, try printing a test page:
- Open Devices and Printers.
- Right-click on the HP Envy 5660 and select Printer properties.
- In the General tab, click Print Test Page.
HP Print and Scan Doctor
If these steps don’t resolve the issue, download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's website. This tool can help diagnose and fix printing and scanning issues automatically.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
