Hi @Robert_V_61

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for already setting up your printer wirelessly—it’s great to see your initiative. I completely understand the need for a reliable USB connection when Wi-Fi isn’t available.

To switch your HP Smart Tank 7005 from wireless to USB on your Windows 11 PC, simply connect the USB cable and add the printer again using the HP App or Windows settings. This allows seamless fallback when wireless is unavailable.

Let’s walk through the steps to add the USB connection without disrupting your existing setup:

Connect the USB Cable

  • Use a high-quality USB A-B cable (square connector for printer, flat USB-A for PC).
  • Plug the cable into the rear USB port of the printer and a USB port on your PC.
  • Wait a few moments for Windows to detect the printer.

Open the HP App

  • If you haven’t already, install the HP App from the Microsoft Store.
  • Launch the HP App and wait for it to detect the printer via USB.

Add the USB Printer

  • In the HP App, click Add Printer if it doesn’t appear automatically.
  • Select the USB-connected version of your HP Smart Tank 7005 (it may show as “Direct USB” or similar).
  • Follow the on-screen prompts to complete setup.

Set USB as Default (Optional)

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Click your printer’s USB version > Set as default if you prefer USB over wireless when both are available.

Keep Both Connections

  • You can keep both wireless and USB connections active. Windows will use whichever is available.
  • No need to uninstall the wireless setup unless you prefer USB-only usage.

If you’ve already connected the USB cable and the printer isn’t showing up, let me know—we can explore driver installation or port troubleshooting next.

You're doing a great job staying proactive with your setup. Let’s make sure your printing experience is smooth and flexible, no matter the connection.
