I installed Windows software instead of OS X in error when I purchased this printer in OCT 2019.   So I contacted HP and asked the Support person to tell me how to uninstall the software .  She told me to keep the software even though I have a MAC laptop.   Since Oct 2020, I can't print at all using my computer.  The printer sends me an error message - "hpPostScriptPDE.plugin".  I didn't contact HP until today.  Haven't been able to talk to anyone.  I just want to uninstall the software and drivers,  so I can install the correct OS X software and drivers.  Can you help?

Thank you for the information. Let us follow the steps below:

Use the HP uninstaller as shown in this document. Follow steps 1-7.

Once disabled, install the printer using AirPrint driver(recommended)

1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.

4.) Click the plus sign click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

@GraniteBay3, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

The software used for Windows OS and macOS is different. You cannot install the printer driver designed for Windows on a Mac, you will get an error while installing.

The extension for Mac is .dmg where Windows use .exe

To assist you better, do you get any errors while printing?

Is the printer connected wirelessly to the Mac?

If yes, Perform a ping test to check the connectivity

  1. Obtain the IP address of the printer by clicking on the Wireless icon on the printer
  2. On the MAC Go to Spotlight > search for Network utility > select Ping tab > enter the IP address of the printer in the box
  3. Check the second box that says Send only > 10 pings
  4. Click on ping > Check the results at the end if any packets are lost
  5. Note: There should be 0% packet loss, share the results in your next post.

Try making a standalone copy from the flatbed glass and check if that works. By this, we can conclude if this is a hardware or a driver issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Hello, Kumar0307,

Thank you for helping me.  I will answer your questions below:

1- do you get any errors while printing?

Yes, when I try to print, I get this message: "hpPostScriptDE.plugin will damage your computer"

then when I click on "Print" on the next screen, I get this message: "hpPreProcessing.filter will damage your computer"

2-Is the printer connected wirelessly to the Mac?

yes, but I can't print when using the internet provider either.

3- I am unable to Perform a ping test to check the connectivity.  In spotlight I only get "siri knowledge".  there isn't a ping tab or anything.

4- yes, printing copies on the glass works fine.  It is only from my laptop that I can't print anymore.  The reason I want to delete the software if because I had great difficulty with the mAC accepting the software (not realizing that I was using the Windows download by mistake).  the Support Person then took over my computer and did some things and I was able to print, at least for a year.  But now I regret agreeing to keep the Windows software because this happened where i have no way to print.  Something is very wrong.  I just want to start all over with the software is that possible?

Can you help?  thank you for your time.

 Hello, Kumar0307,

Thank you so much for your help.  I have some questions before I proceed with the steps you sent me.

1-  I Have Norton Security and I clicked on the Application to see if there was an option to disable it and I could not find an option.  If I can't disable, should i use steps 8-11 instead?

2-  In Step 6, there is a box that states:

"HP Uninstaller wants to make changes.  Enter your password to allow this."

Do I enter the U/PW  that I use to logon to my MAC?  I don't have an HP printer one.

Thank you very much for your help.  I wish I would have done this 8 months ago!

  1. Steps 1-7 are necessary to remove the installed software completely from its roots. Even if you do not have an option to disable Norton, follow steps 1-7
  2. Yes, you have to use the Mac login password.

Let me know how it goes.
