Hi @Grace725,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is showing “printer does not exist” after reinstalling it on Windows 11, it’s likely due to a driver or connection issue. Let’s walk through the steps to fix it:

1. Remove All Existing Printer Entries

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
  • Remove any instance of the HP OfficeJet Pro 6978.
  • Also, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers and remove it there if listed.

2. Uninstall HP Software

  • Go to Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a program.
  • Uninstall anything related to HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 or HP Smart.

3. Restart Your Computer

4. Download and Install the Full Driver

5. Reconnect the Printer

  • If using USB, plug it in only when prompted.
  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer is connected to the same network as your PC.
    • On the printer, go to Wireless Settings > Wireless Setup Wizard.

6. Add Printer Manually (if needed)

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners > Add device.
  • Wait for Windows to detect the printer and follow the prompts.

I hope this helps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
