I just set up an HP Smart tank 5000 I can hear a faint high-pitched beep. Is this normal and is there any way to make it stop?

Hi @sube2

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

A faint high-pitched beep from the HP Smart Tank 5000 is not expected during normal operation. It may be caused by power supply resonance, internal component vibration, or environmental interference. While not necessarily harmful, it can be addressed with a few steps.

Here’s how to approach it:

Step 1: Power Cycle the Printer

  1. Turn off the printer using the power button.
  2. Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  3. Wait 60 seconds.
  4. Plug it back in directly to a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extension cords).
  5. Turn the printer back on and listen for the sound.

This helps reset internal components and may eliminate transient electrical noise.

Step 2: Relocate the Printer

  • Move the printer to a different surface or room.
  • Avoid placing it near other electronics, especially routers, speakers, or power adapters.

Sometimes nearby devices can cause electrical interference that leads to faint sounds.

Step 3: Check for Firmware Updates

  1. Open the HP App from your PC or mobile device.
  2. Select your printer → go to Settings → Printer Maintenance → Update Firmware.
  3. Follow the prompts to install any available updates.

Firmware updates can resolve internal timing or power regulation issues.

Step 4: Inspect the Power Adapter

  • Confirm that the power adapter is the original one supplied with the printer.
  • If the sound seems to come from the adapter itself, try plugging it into a different outlet.

Some adapters emit a high-frequency whine when under load or in standby.

Let me know if you'd like help identifying the exact source of the sound or testing with a different power setup. You're doing everything right by checking early—let’s make sure your setup stays quiet and smooth.
