My product is an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.  I have lost the password for this printer and I need to reset it so I can regain admin rights to this device.  How do I reset this password?

Hi @Liam17529,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Please follow these instructions to reset your admin password:

1. Double-click on the printer icon on the desktop to open the HP Printer Assistant.

2. Click on the "Printer Home Page (EWS)" option.

3. This will open a webpage with the printer. Click on the "Settings" tab on top.

4. On the right, under "Security" click on "Password settings". (Verify the page if you are asked to.)

5. Type the password you want in both password fields (or leave it blank if you do not want a password) and hit "Apply".

Let me know if it helped.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for helping me.  Your reply to my problem has not yet provided me with a workable solution because I do not have a printer icon on my desktop.  How do I get this printer icon?  Can I download it from the HP website, and if so, how do I do this?

Thanks,

...Liam17529

Hi @Liam17529,

Thanks for getting back to me! No worries, we’ll find another way to reset the password.

Since you don’t have the printer icon on your desktop, you can access the Embedded Web Server (EWS) directly through your web browser. Here’s how:

Find the Printer’s IP Address:

On your printer’s control panel, tap the Wireless or Network icon.

Note down the IP Address displayed (e.g., 192.168.1.100).

Access the Printer’s Web Interface:

Open a web browser on your computer.

Type the printer’s IP address into the address bar and press Enter.

Reset the Admin Password:

Click on the Settings tab.

Under Security, select Password Settings.

Enter a new password (or leave it blank to remove the password), then click Apply.

If you’re unable to log in due to the forgotten password, you may need to perform a printer factory reset:

Refer to the steps on this link to restore factory defaults.

This should reset all settings, including the admin password. Let me know if you need further assistance!

I hope this helps.
