Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My HP LaserJet 6P printer is attached to my Windows 10 computer.

I have Windows XP 32 bit system installed on another computer.

My network contain both computers, and I want to print  from the XP computer.

In order to do this I am trying to add a second driver to the Windows10 HP LaserJet 6P Printer:

* Right click Printer

* Printer Properties

* Change Sharing Options

* Additional Drivers

* Check x86 Type 3 User Mode

* OK

The dialog box asks for a driver: I need a HP LaserJet 6P x86 Type 3 User Mode Driver

Where can I get this driver?

@Repairatrooper is right about to the parallel to network adapter.

Or you can try a parallel to usb adapter or a printer server with parallel port will do too.

Use HP Universal Print Driver for Windows x64 PCL 5 driver or HP LaserJet 3055 PCL 5 driver in Windows 10 or any other LaserJet PCL 5 driver which you can find.

Are you sharing the printer from one computer to the other or is the printer networked? The current UPD will not solve your problem as this printer is not supported. If you can find the older PCL5 UPD driver that might work. It is a challenge if you are sharing from another computer though.

Can you suggest  a printer model that would use that type of driver?  I will go to the download  page for that printer and download the driver.

Thanks

Try the Laserjet 4000

I think I am trying to put a square peg in a round hole!

I keep getting the message when I try and install various drivers:

"The specified location does not contain the driver HP LaserJet 6P for the requested processor architecture."

I did a search for the main printer driver through the process  in the  "Printer Properties" page  and it installed a new main printer driver:

HP LaserJet 6P x64, Type 3 - User Mode"

What I am looking for is an "Additional Driver"

HP LaserJet 6P x64,  x86 Type 3 - User Mode"

The problem with all this is I can't ever see what are the name of  installed  printer drivers on my computer.

It looks to me that I need a driver for HP LaserJet 6P with "x86" in its  name?

Am I just trying to put a square peg in a round hole?

I have another thought:

I have the HP LaserJet 6P  printer also  installed on my computer with Windows XP 32 bit installed (I can just move the HP printer cable to the XP computer when I want to print something - a big pain in the rear!)

Is there someway to find the *.inf driver file for that printer on my XP machine?

Maybe it would work?

The easiest solution is to get a parallel to network adapter, connect the printer to your network and then manually install the printer on the Windows 10 machine and tell it to use the 4000 driver. This is much easier than trying to get an old printer working on a parallel or usb port.

Interesting!

What about my Windows XP machine - will it be able to connect to the HP Laser Jet 6P printer through the "parallel to network adapter?"
