You may have to wait for a firmware update.
Alternately use genuine HP toner

(1). First reset Printer System in Mac:

(2). Then download next software needed for Mac:
>> https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip

I have tried this, with the firmware reset on printer, with the firmware tool on Mac, I have tried hp smart and Quick start app - I am able to locate it, but not send any printing jobs, unless its connected via usb.

On many printers, connecting USB automatically disables Wi-Fi or Ethernet. You would need to reset to put it back into Wi-Fi mode and that 2 hour connect period.
You have HP Smart on the Mac, is that correct? Does it show up as online and ready? The online would show an IP address such as 192.168.1.120 for example.
Can you request a print from HP Smart
1 - Click on Printer Settings then click on Printer Reports and do a demo or test page
2 - Click on Print Documents and find and select a small PDF document print.
