I have an old HP Desktop 1050 all-in-one printer J410. Some direction where I was trying to fix a printer problem told me to uninstall any HP printers. I did so, but now I'm trying to reinstall my printer in Windows 10, and cant get anywhere. Can anyone help me with adding this printer?

Thanks for taking an interest in the HP community. A very good day to you. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Splendid diagnosis and great presentation of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
Let me gather some information for better clarity to assist you correctly:
- Did you run HP print and scan doctor and check if it gets fixed?
I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
- Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/product/hp-deskjet-1050-all-in-one-printer-series-j410/4027462/model/40... and follow instructions from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer”
Then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers at the root level by following these step by step instructions.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Then download the latest full feature driver from this link: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-1050-all-in-one-printer-series-j410/4027... and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
This should fix the issue. If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879
- This should resolve the issue for you. There is an associated YouTube video on how to install it. Please check the steps:
- Step 2: Connect your printer to the computer
- Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard
- This should nail it for you.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
