M281 Laser Jet
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I will never buy another printer from HP!!!

They pushed an update to my M281 laser jet that instantly made my recently purchased 3rd party ink cartridges that I just paid almost as much as the printer cost for extended life obsolete making my 14 month old printer as valuable as a piece of junk. Then when I try to go find the old software to see if I can downgrade it I find HP has taken it off their site. What a bunch of greedy bastards!!!! I will get this working but will never buy another HP product ever again from such an underhanded, sleezy and greedy company!

The latest HP update blocks all 3rd party supplies

Dynamic security enabled printer. This Firmware includes dynamic security measures, which may prevent supplies with non-HP chips or circuitry from working now or in the future. More at: www.hp.com/go/learnaboutsupplies.

Exactly. Confirmed. HP are a bunch of greedy bastards and I would have never bought one of their printers if I knew they could do this. What a complete scam to sell ink. Now people are just buying one of their cheap printers and when it runs out of the supplied ink they throw it away and buy a new one because it's cheaper than buy ink refills. How the hell is that helping anyone especially the planet.

Did you resolve your issue? Theres a way to downgrade the latest update - to keep using your printer 🙂

Not resolved. Tried numerous times following the instructions and downloaded the link to the original software/firmware that someone provided seeing at the greedy HP bastards took it off their website. Even tried uninstalling and reinstalling with the original disc. Same issue. Now my 3rd party ink supplier is going to credit me back for the ink and sell me OEM HP cartridges that they also stock. Waiting to find out what the difference in cost is. They also told me that this HP upgrade also made the original OEM ink cartridges in the printer not recognized either. That must be pissing off a whole bunch of people. I have been told that some very large companies are considering law suits again HP now. This actually seems illegal. Fraud perhaps? Selling a product that is then disabled after you buy it so you have to purchase stuff to make it work. Can't believe HP would stoop so low.

Actually as far as I remember,  this happened in 2016, HP was sued for this kind of behavior. But someone should check the terms and conditions of using a HP product, if you don't agree to this by buying a HP product at first place
