[edit]  If I cancel my instant ink program will i be able to buy printer ink from a retail store and still use my printer?

In fact, you will have to purchase retail cartridges as the instant ink cartridges only function while the printer is covered under a subscription and you will not be able to print when you cancel until you have replaced them.
