Hi @Bishter,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you’re having trouble scanning from your HP ENVY 6458E printer to your computer, follow these steps to troubleshoot and successfully scan documents:

**1. Install HP Software

  • Download and install the HP Smart app on your computer or mobile device. This app provides an easy interface for scanning and managing your printer settings.
  • Alternatively, you can download and install the full feature software for your HP ENVY 6458E from the HP Support website.
  • Search for your printer model and choose the appropriate driver and software package for your operating system.

**2. Connect Printer to Computer

  • Ensure your printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or is connected to the same Wi-Fi network if using wireless.
  • If using a wireless connection, make sure your printer and computer are on the same Wi-Fi network.

**3. Configure Printer for Scanning

  • Open the HP Smart app on your computer.
  • If it’s the first time you’re using it, follow the setup instructions to add your printer.
  • In the HP Smart app, select the Scan option.
  • Choose the scan settings such as document type, color mode, and file format.
  • Place the document you want to scan on the scanner glass or into the document feeder of your printer.
  • Click the Scan button in the HP Smart app to start the scanning process.

**4. Use Windows or macOS Built-in Scanning Tools

For Windows:

  • Search for and open the Windows Scan app from the Start menu.
  • Choose your HP ENVY 6458E from the list of available scanners.
  • Select scan settings, such as document type and resolution.
  • Place your document on the scanner and click the Scan button

Check for Scanner Issues:

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and ready.
  • Ensure the scanner glass is clean and free from obstructions.
  • Look for any error messages on the printer’s display or in the software.

**6. Update Printer Firmware and Software

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model.
  • Download and install any available firmware updates.
  • Ensure that the HP Smart app or other software you are using is up to date.

**7. Restart Devices

  • Turn off the printer, wait for 30 seconds, and turn it back on.
  • Restart your computer to ensure there are no temporary issues affecting the scanning process.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
