I don't know why but I went to print the other day and took a look at the ink levels in the HP smart app they said they were only halfway so I figured they were fine.

 

Went to print and no black and barely any color. So what's the deal here?

It's explained in the user manual, ink level is an estimate and you need to replace cartridges when print quality becomes unacceptable.
