Hi,

I'm attempting to install the drivers for an OfficeJet Pro 8610 on a system running Windows Server 2012. I installed the drivers from here (after choosing Windows 2012 for the OS): http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Officejet-Pro-8610-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/53...

I first tried installing using the GUI (Setup.exe) but ran into an error saying the OS was not compatible.

I did some research and discovered that these drivers need to be installed using the command line and the msiexec.exe command. I attempted to do this using the following command line (with admin privileges): msiexec.exe /i PATHTOMSI

However, when I do this, it STILL gives me an incompatible OS error. Not sure what to do here.

Here is a link to the HP Forum Post explaining the need for a command line install: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/installing-Pro-8610-Windows-server-2008rt-X64/m-p/426...

Thanks.

I ended up soliving this problem myself while tinkering around.

I went through the Add New Printer process via the Devices and Printers window.

I said my printer wasn't listend then opted to manually set up a printer. I created a new local port and just called it the name of the printer. It then prompted for drivers. I chose Have Disk and then navigated to the folder where I had extracted the printer drivers. Selected this folder and the drivers installed.

This gets the drivers installed in the system. Windows should then automatically recognize/install the printer if it's plugged in.

Note, I needed to do this only for printing over a remote desktop connection. If you need the actual HP software installed for printing AND scanning, this will not work for that.

Hi,

If you would like to install the HP Software for scanning too, you may follow these steps to install the printer on a Server using the MSIEXEC Command:

As I said in my post, attempting to install the drivers using the MSIEXEC command as described in that page you linked fails because it still says the operating system isn't supported. Unless there is a command line switch to ignore the operating system check (which it would be helpful to know).
