Dear colleagues

Please may I request advice. As mentioned in the header, I possess an older printer. It is the color laserjet 4650, which I have owned about 11 years. It still works great, and I have a full set of cartridges to go with it.I am loathe to part with it.

Sometime after obtaining the printer, I upgraded my PC to a second hand Windows 10 system. At that time, to my dismay, the printer would not work. 'printers and devices' did show a driver installed, but any print job sent to the printer (via the usb port) would result in an error.  The message 'processing job' would appear, followed by the message 'data received'. appearing repeatedly. No output materialized.

After this I tried reinstalling Windows 10 using media in my possession, and to my surprise, with the fresh install the printer now worked fine.

In fact after this the printer did work fine for years with this system. However, recently I accidentally messed up my windows installation and had to do a new install from scratch. Regrettably the original issue has re-occurred. The printer will, again, no longer work.  In fact I have tried several versions of windows 10 but, unlike when I first purchased the pc, I cannot get the printer to work. The driver appears to be installed. However, sending a print job merely brings up a 'data received' message on the printer's LCD display.

I would like to enquire if anyone might be able to provide advice as to how I might surmount this problem.

Thank  you

Ian

Hello @kasfig
I understand that your printer is not working on Windows 10 due to a potential driver issue. I recommend removing the printer and download the Windows 10 drivers from the HP website:
I. Remove the printer

  1. Open Settings
    Press Windows + I → select Devices.
  2. Go to Printers & Scanners
Click Printers & scanners on the left panel.
  3. Select the Printer
Find the printer you want to remove → click it.
  4. Remove the Printer
Click Remove device → confirm Yes.

II. Reinstall and setup the printer using the drivers from the website- https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/hp-color-laserjet-4650-printer-series/375775
Double check that the Operating System is set to Windows 10.

Hope this helps!
