Dear community,
I have moved to a new computer with Windows 11 and wanted to install the new driver for my printer by using the LAN connection of the printer. During the initial installation attempt, I ran into an error that the installation cannot proceed, as another program is currently installing software and it has to wait till that is finished. When I then finished the other installation, the driver installation did not go through and the deinstallation of the already installed components was reverted. I then restarted the installation, but then ran into another error after the selection of the network-connected printer.
As a side note: I have used a similar setup on another Win 11 laptop that worked without a problem.
You can see the installation issue in the picture below. There is an empty message box, which, when clicked, leads to the selection of the printer on the network, again. This loop continues endlessly and the installation does not proceed. When I cancel the installation, the installation is reverted.
Error popping up during installation
I figured out that even after the reverted installation, parts of the driver remain on the system, such as the scan devices as well as the printer ports. I removed the scan devices over Windows' device manager and the printer ports over the printui.exe /s command. However, even after removing all those parts, the installation will not run through.
I have checked the installation logs of the installer, which brings up the following quite a lot:
10:58:34 06/10/23
Start Log
FixLocButRegStrings At Beginning
Parameters Key Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging\{9EE79F3E-707C-4280-8C22-00FEB9701E80}
Could not read key Software\Hewlett-Packard\DigitalImaging\{9EE79F3E-707C-4280-8C22-00FEB9701E80}
10:58:34 06/10/23
End Log
If I check the missing key in the registry with regedit.exe, I can see that the requested directory {9EE79F3E-707C-4280-8C22-00FEB9701E80} is indeed missing at that location.
Can someone please hint at a possible solution to my problem. Let me know when you need further info.

Hi,
you are using an older driver installation program, not intended for Windows 11, the original CD or any software you may download from HP.com is intended for earlier operating system versions and not for Windows 11.
Please download and install the HP Universal Print Drivers below to install and use the printer on a Windows 11 PC and follow the steps on screen to add a network PC by using its TCP/IP address:
