Installed the smart tank 7600. Got as far as alignment. Its been over 30 minutes. Printer says updating from software or embedding. Is this normal?

Hello @SCatwork, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

During the initial setup of the HP Smart Tank 7600, it is normal for the printer to perform firmware updates and initialization tasks. However, 30 minutes is longer than typically expected for a firmware update to complete.

Before taking any action, please power drain the printer and try again:

  • Take out the cartridges
  • Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.
  • Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.
  • Insert the cartridges back into the printer.
  • Remove the cartridges > Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Insert the cartridges

If the display remains unchanged for an extended period (such as over 30 minutes with no visible progress), the update process may have stalled.

Please let us know:

  • Whether the update eventually completed.
  • The exact message currently displayed on the printer screen.
  • Whether the printer is connected via Wi‑Fi or Ethernet.
  • If any error messages appear after waiting.

I'm an HP Employee.
