HP OfficeJet Pro 8134e All-in-One Printer

The printer light is on  - the wifi light is on and steady but the printer will not print or scan.  It was working yesterday and my daughter managed to print a label this morning so not sure what has now gone wrong. I have HP Smart installed and it does say its ready but when I hit scan it takes ages then says return home scan is not available.  It is also not allowing me to print anything.

Hi @Office65,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Since your HP OfficeJet Pro 8134e was working fine until this morning, but now won't print or scan despite showing as "ready" in HP Smart, here's a troubleshooting guide you can follow.

Restart the Devices

  • Restart the printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source for at least 60 seconds, and plug it back in.
  • Restart your router: Sometimes a simple router reset can fix network-related issues. Unplug the router for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in.
  • Restart the device you're using to print (computer, phone, tablet, etc.).

Check the Wi-Fi Connection

  • Make sure the printer and your device are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. Since the Wi-Fi light is on and steady, it seems the printer is connected, but it’s worth double-checking the network settings to ensure everything is correct.
  • Open the printer's network settings on the control panel to verify that it’s connected to the correct network.

Reboot or Reset HP Smart

  • Close and reopen the HP Smart app on your device.
  • If this doesn't help, consider reinstalling HP Smart. Delete the app and install the latest version from the respective store (App Store/Google Play/Windows Store).

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor (For Windows Users)

  • HP offers a free tool to diagnose and resolve issues related to printing and scanning. You can download it from the HP Support website.
  • Once downloaded, run the tool and follow the on-screen instructions to check for issues.

Check for Print Queue Errors

  • Sometimes, documents stuck in the print queue prevent new jobs from processing.
  • On Windows, go to Devices and Printers → right-click your printer → See what's printingCancel all documents.
  • On macOS, open System PreferencesPrinters & Scanners → select your printer → Open Print Queue → clear the queue.

Update Printer Firmware

  • Ensure the printer firmware is up to date. You can check for firmware updates through HP Smart or the printer’s control panel settings.

Check for Connection Issues (USB or Wi-Fi Direct)

  • If using Wi-Fi Direct, ensure it's enabled in the printer settings, and the device you're using is connected directly to the printer’s Wi-Fi.
  • If using a USB connection, verify that the cable is securely connected.

Reset the Printer's Network Settings

  • If none of the above helps, you can try resetting the printer's network settings.
  • Go to the printer control panel → SettingsNetworkRestore Network Settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
