Hi @Wmfliss ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP OfficeJet 5740 is asking for a WPS PIN, it’s likely trying to connect to your WiFi network using Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS).

Here’s how to locate or bypass the WPS PIN:

1. Find the WPS PIN on Your Printer’s Display

  • Some HP printers display the WPS PIN on the printer's screen when you start the Wi-Fi setup process.
  • Go to your printer’s Wireless Settings or Wi-Fi Protected Setup menu, and choose WPS PIN to display the PIN. It may be a temporary 8-digit number that changes each time.

2. Using the WPS Button on Your Router

  • If you don’t see the PIN, you can connect via WPS Button Mode:
    1. Start the WPS mode on your printer (often under Wi-Fi Setup > WPS > Push Button).
    2. Press the WPS button on your router within two minutes to connect.

3. Check Your Router for the WPS PIN

  • Some routers have a default WPS PIN printed on a label on the router itself. Look for an 8-digit number labeled as WPS PIN.

4. Using the HP Smart App or HP Easy Start HP printer setup (HP Smart app)

  • If WPS doesn’t work, you can set up the printer using the HP Smart app (Windows app store) or HP Easy Start software, which may let you skip the WPS requirement entirely by connecting via USB initially or by manually entering your Wi-Fi credentials.

I hope this helps.
