HP OfficeJet Pro 8715 All-in-One Printer
macOS 10.15 Catalina

ATTENTION: INSTANT INK DOES NOT WORK WITH APPLE IOS CATALINA.  After installing the Instant Ink cartridge, printing from the iMac running Catalina is disabled.  User is presented with a login/password window.  After 4+ hours talking to HP support, I am told that Catalina needs a printer update.  HP doesn't have it, Apple does not have it.

The 30 day trial for Instant Ink is no longer available (once installed), and it turns your HP Printer (HP DeskJet Pro 8715) into a boat anchor.

A bit more information:  My Lenovo Laptop is able to print to the 5715 (WiFi), and I can connect to the printer's Web interface from the iMac. I am able to Airprint from my iPhone X.    HP has done all it's troubleshooting, and sent me to Apple where we did their troubleshooting (removing all instances of HP from the keychain, enabling the guest account, creating a different printer user account with a password)-- still I am presented with a login pop-up and then "hold for authentication" in the printer queue.  Yes, I have tried login/passwords for my iMac, my HP account, and simply leaving the password field blank.

Because this only started happening when I installed the Instant Ink cartridges, I am guessing that there is a login handshake between HP and the Instant Ink cartridges that the printer is passing off to  Catalina as a login request.  Without putting on a packet sniffer and seeing where the handshake is coming from/what is being requested, the printer remains unusable from the iMac (and my iPad as well).

Apple and HP consider that matter closed.  Any other ideas?
