Dear HP Support,

 

I have an HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer that is experiencing an intermittent printhead recognition problem.

Sometimes it worked, sometimes it had problems recognizing the printhead... now it has stopped working completely. I have always used an HP subscription that provides genuine HP supplies, and this occurred after a printer firmware update.

 

I would like to know:

 

- If there is any firmware update or patch to resolve this recognition failure;

- If there is support for reinstalling or reverting the printer firmware to a stable version;

- What steps are recommended by HP to resolve this type of failure.

Hello! Thank you very much for your reply, but unfortunately it didn't work.
I think the printer has reached the end of its useful life; it has served well for many years and is going into retirement. It's not a product worth repairing, and although it's very good, the repair is very expensive, even more so than a new printer.
I have already received the new printer, and this one is going to be recycled.
Thank you again.

I understand your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 is no longer recognizing the printhead after previously working intermittently, especially following a firmware update. Let’s go through the recommended checks that can help restore printhead detection.

Perform a full power reset
Turn the printer on, then unplug the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
Wait 60 seconds, reconnect the power cable, and allow the printer to fully initialize.

Reseat the printhead
Open the cartridge access door and remove all ink cartridges.
Lift the printhead latch, remove the printhead, reinstall it firmly, close the latch, then reinstall the cartridges.

Clean printhead and carriage contacts
Using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water, gently clean the copper contacts on the printhead and inside the carriage.
Allow the contacts to dry for a few minutes before reinstalling the printhead.

Check for cartridge or carriage errors
Make sure all cartridges are genuine HP cartridges and properly seated.
Confirm the carriage moves freely when the printer is powered off.

Restore printer defaults
On the printer control panel, go to Setup → Printer Maintenance → Restore → Restore Factory Defaults.
This clears configuration data that may affect printhead detection.

Update printer firmware (if accessible)
If the printer reaches the Home screen, open Setup → Printer Update → Check for Updates.
Install any available firmware updates.
