I was transferred from customer service to this firm.  I am concerned about the legitimacy.

Unlikely, HP would recommend a third party. This scenario more typically results from a user getting on to one of the many scam links that looks like HP but is not and they then transfer you to 3rd party who will find all sorts of things wrong with our computer, ask for outrageous payments and tell you that you need software updates that they will need access to your computer to apply. They will also insist you need some new software, often a software that is available at no charge, but they want $300 for it. 

 

I would not trust this information,. In addition, I have escalated your post as HP does track and pursue these non-legitimate companies that try to convince users that they are actually HP.
