Is printer truly not compatible?

I have a new HP computer - Windows 11.  I was trying to connect my older HP Deskjet 1510 All-in-One  Series printer. I had no luck. I kept getting error type messages. I couldn’t figure out why this was difficult.  Finally, I looked up the compatibility of my printer to Windows 11. I did not see my printer series listed. Does this truly mean I am out of luck and have to purchase a new printer OR is there some way around my problem? Thanks so much!

It is true - the Windows 11 compatibility document does not include the DeskJet 1510.

That said, I found more than one review for the printer dated 2015 -- the printer is old but not yet ancient.

The software in the printer's support website is old (version 32.x) - this is also not ancient.

The official word appears to be "no" - not tested or listed as compatible with Windows 11.

The printer requires a USB printer cable -

Remove the USB printer cable from between the printer and the computer before you install the printer software.

Near the end of the installation procedure,

Reconnect the cable after the software when you see the instruction to do so.

Reinstalling?

• Uninstall existing full driver printer software from Programs and Features.
• If your printer includes a separate "help" in Programs and Features, uninstall that, too.
• Restart the computer and log in.
• If the printer is connected to the computer using a printer USB cable, remove / disconnect the cable before loading the software.

Download > Save > and Install

If / When asked, opt for the Full Driver / Full Software to be installed.

Using USB?  (Re)Connect when instructed to do so.

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and sign in.

The installation of the full driver generally adds at least one or more shortcuts to the Desktop.

 Note:  Printer Assistant, HP Scan Assistant, and HP Scan are dependent on printer model and supported software options.

• Printer Assistant – Where still supported as part of the full driver printer software
• HP Scan Assistant – For those printers that no longer provide the Printer Assistant
• HP Scan – Shortcut on Desktop named for the printer model
• When installed, HP Universal Scan software adds a separate self-named “HP Scan” shortcut

Printer Assistant shortcut > Tab Scan > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Thank you so much for the speedy reply - although I wish it was compatible. Of course, I had just put brand new ink in the printer. Isn’t that the way it goes????

Too bad your solution must be "throw up hands".  I prefer a better outcome.  Wry smile here.

So - you tried to install the full driver printer software web pack and it failed, yes??

OK -

The only other solution I can propose -- it is also a long shot, is to see if you can install the Microsoft Print Drivers - this is generally not an option if the printer is fully incompatible -- Checking only takes only a few minutes.

Built-in Driver

Old driver is Gone

We see occasional questions about printers for which full driver software installation packages are no longer listed for current (or older) versions of Windows.

The full driver printer software for this printer is no longer listed as available from HP.

When available for the printer and a supported version of Windows, install the Windows Built-in print drivers.

When installed, the Windows print driver provides basic print function.
