My Color LaserJet CP1518ni has stopped working on two MacOS systems. One system is running MacOS 10.15.7, and the other is running 10.14.6.
Behavior: When I attempt to print, it looks like the document is spooling, but the printer remains idle. The application is irrelevant, but I've tried Pages, Preview, and printing a test page from the Print Queue window.
After I started having problems, I downloaded and installed "HPPrinterDrivers5.1.dmg". One the 10.14.6 machine, that installed without complaint. On the 10.15.7 machine, it gave me an error about an outdated certificate.
Before you ask: Yes I did power-cycle the printer (including unplugging), I did Reset the printing system on both computers, and I I did reboot both computers. The printer is connected by Ethernet. One computer is on WiFi, the other on wired Ethernet.
If I open the Error Log from the Print Queue window, I see numerous errors from [cups-deviced] which say "PID nnn (hpfax) crashed on signal 9!"
At one point on the 10.15.7 machine, I was getting an error that some of the HP printer software would "break my computer" and that a report was being sent to Apple. That stopped happing after I installed the new drivers anyway, even after the certificate error.
I don't print often, but when I do it's important stuff for me. I last printed in mid-September, and it worked fine.
This seems like a software problem between HP an Apple. It looks like I should cancel my latest HP Toner order, because this perfectly functioning and otherwise reliable printer might be a victim or planned obsolescence.

Hi I have the same problem.
My configuration: HP LaserJet M1522n MFP (10427A), Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2), Macbook Pro
The printer worked until recently, until 22.10.2020. After that we have not printed anymore, so I do not know the exact point in time when and what has changed.
Today, 24.10.2020 I have also updated to Catalina 10.15.7 from 10.15.6. Both versions did not work.
Bahviour of the printer:
- I can print service pages on the printer.
- When printing from Mac:
-- The queue dialog appears, but the job disappears after 2 secs.
-- Nothing is printed, the printer does nothing.
Erro log of the queue app:
E [24/Oct/2020:21:12:23 +0200] [cups-deviced] PID 1906 (hpfax) crashed on signal 9!
Other logs: fax.backend can break the system
