HP Envy 5400
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I went to print a document from the Internet and clicked print quickly. It says it printed to an old HP Envy 5400 that wasn’t even plugged in. I checked the queue after a few minutes and it said it was on 3/5, but my printer that was plugged in had nothing. I realized it says it went to the old printer type, so I plugged that printer in. It then showed I had two Envy 5400s in the printer devices (see picture). It printed to the second one, and the first one in the list is the one I plugged in after. Are they they same computer? They have the same number, which is the MAC address.

At one point, I tried to run a test page and the second in the list said it was out of paper and wouldn’t print. The first in the list was not showing as out of paper. So is it two different printers? Did I accidentally possibly print to someone else’s printer even though I’ve never used it before? What happened to the few pages it says it printed before I cancelled it? Are these the same printer?

It is doubtful you printed to someone else's printing that is the same printer you used to have connected to your network.

Yes, both HP 5400's are the same printer.

Switch off the old HP 5400 (if it is still switched on).

Remove the unwanted printer from your computer.

Remove - Printer Drivers – Lurking in Devices and Printers

Check / Remove

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers

Left-Click on any unwanted Printer found in the Printers list

Clicking on a printer, displays options along the ribbon (near the top of the Devices and Printers window)

Click Print Server Properties > tab Drivers

Click on Driver(s) in list, select Remove > OK to exit menu

Back in Devices and Printers > Right-Click on the printer > Remove Device

If any devices are removed, Restart the computer and log in

Method – Print Server Properties

Check / Remove - Unwanted Printers in Print Server Properties

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Left-Click on any printer device (even OneNote)

Along the horizontal ribbon near the top of the page, Open Print server properties > Tab Drivers

or

Windows key + r (opens "run" window) > type printui.exe /s /t2

Next

Left-Click on each unwanted printer entry > Highlight and Remove

Complete this action for every instance of every unwanted printer entry you find in the list you have open.

Click OK to save changes and exit the menu

If any devices are removed, Restart the computer and log in
