Microsoft Windows 11

The HP OfficeJet 200 printer driver doesnt install on Windows 11 24h2 latest version. We keep getting an error that the certificate for the driver is not signed. We tried installing the printer with HP smart and the driver but the printer is still seen as a USB device. We tried on a pc that has 21h2 installed and the printer installs automatically. We upgraded this device to 24h2 latest version and now the device is not seen as a printer but as a USB device again.

Hi @NicolasDaoust,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can imagine how frustrating it must be to see your HP OfficeJet 200 Mobile Printer suddenly stop working after upgrading to Windows 11 24H2, especially when it worked perfectly before. You're not alone in this, and I’m here to help you navigate this issue with.

Issue Summary

After upgrading to Windows 11 24H2, many users have reported that:

  • The printer is detected only as a USB device, not a printer.
  • The driver fails to install due to a certificate not being signed.
  • The same printer works fine on Windows 10 or 21H2, but fails after upgrading.

This is a known issue affecting USB-connected printers and scanners, especially those using the eSCL protocol, which includes many HP models.

Steps You Can Take Right Now

1. Avoid installing via HP Smart or Easy Start (for now)

These apps may not correctly install the driver on 24H2. Instead, try manual installation using the official HP driver page: 👉 HP OfficeJet 200 Mobile Printer series Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

2. Use Windows Built-in Driver (if available)

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners
  • Click Add device
  • Wait for Windows to detect the printer and install a basic driver

If it still shows as a USB device, proceed to the next step.

3. Disable Driver Signature Enforcement (Temporary Workaround)

If you're comfortable doing this, it allows unsigned drivers to install:

  • Open Settings > Recovery > Advanced startup
  • Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings
  • Restart and press F7 to disable driver signature enforcement

Then try installing the driver again manually.

4. Rollback to Windows 11 21H2 or 22H2

If the printer is critical for your work and nothing else works, consider rolling back to a previous version where it worked reliably.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
