HP OfficeJet Pro 8134e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm unable to copy two-sided documents (to a two-sided document).

I don't find an option to copy 2 to 2-sided

When selecting the option "1 to 2-sided", it copies the page 1, then it turns back the copied page looking like it's going to ask me to load the page 2 but it stops there so I can never copy the page 2 to the same sheet of paper (unless I manually feed it and copy the next page which is very cumbersome when you have 20+ pages to copy).

Please advise

@Miridos, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

We understand you're trying to perform 2-sided to 2-sided copying on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8134e, but the printer isn't providing a direct option, and the "1 to 2-sided" setting only partially works. Here’s the situation:

The HP OfficeJet Pro 8134e does not support automatic two-sided copying for double-sided originals.
It only supports automatic duplex printing, not automatic duplex scanning — meaning it can print double-sided, but for scanning or copying double-sided documents, you'll need to manually flip the originals.

This is why you're encountering:

  • It scans one side → prints the first side → expects you to manually reload the next side.

Workarounds and Best Options:

Here’s how you can make the process easier for larger jobs:

Method 1: Manual Two-Pass Copying

  1. Load all pages (first sides facing up) into the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder).
  2. Use the "1 to 2-sided" setting to scan and copy the first side.
  3. The printer will print the front sides on the first sides of the papers.
  4. Take the output, reload it into the ADF or input tray (depending on the prompt).
  5. Now scan the second side using the "2nd pass," and it will print the backs.

Method 2: Use the HP Smart App (on PC or Mobile)

  • Open HP Smart → select Copy/Scan.
  • You can manually scan both sides into a PDF.
  • Then print the file using 2-sided print settings.
  • This method is more efficient for 20+ pages because the app allows you to batch scan (first all front pages, then back pages) and organize them.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
