I have set up my HP Smart Tank 7305 All-in-One printer today on my IMAC and can print but only in black and white. I can't see any options to print in colour. I also can't scan. Can you help me sort this?

Hi @SWEZ,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It’s understandably frustrating to be able to print but only in black-and-white, and not scan at all. Let’s walk through clear steps to restore full color printing and scanning on your HP Smart Tank 7305 with your iMac.

Step 1: Ensure Color Printing is Enabled

On macOS, your printer may default to AirPrint, which doesn’t always include color options:

  1. Remove and re-add the printer using the full HP driver:
    • Go to System SettingsPrinters & Scanners
    • Select the HP Smart Tank 7305 and click to remove it.
    • Click + to re-add the printer.
    • In the "Use" dropdown, do not keep it on AirPrint; choose “HP Smart Tank 7300 Series” or a similar HP driver.

  2. If only AirPrint appears, install the full software using HP Easy Start:

Once that's done, when printing from apps like Pages or Safari, you should now see a Color option in print settings instead of it being greyed out.

Step 2: Enable Scanning

Your printer’s scanner should work once the HP software is properly installed:

  • Use the HP Smart app (available from the Mac App Store):
    1. Open HP Smart, select your printer, and hit Scan.
    2. You'll be able to choose color/B&W, preview your scan, and select file format and destination.
  • Alternatively, use macOS’s Image Capture:
    1. Open Image Capture (find via Spotlight 🔍).
    2. Select the HP Smart Tank 7305.
  • Choose Color from the scan options if available, then click Scan.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
