Microsoft Windows 11

I have recently reset my Windows and have reinstalled Office 365. I tried to install my HP8600 printer, which installs fine, but fails the during the install of the printer assistant which has the scan app, which means I cannot scan from my PC. I get the following errors.

The print prints fine, but I use it a lot for scanning to PC which no longer works. Everything worked before the reset, and the new version of the driver.

Some assistance would be good....

Hi @Rodruss,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When encountering issues with installing printer software, especially for features like scanning, there could be various reasons behind it. Here's a step-by-step troubleshooting guide you can follow to address the issue.

  • Check Compatibility: Ensure that your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer is compatible with your version of Windows and the Office 365 suite. Visit the HP support website to confirm compatibility and download the latest drivers and software compatible with your system.
  • Update Drivers: Sometimes, outdated drivers can cause compatibility issues. Go to the HP support website, enter your printer model, and download the latest drivers for your printer. Install these drivers and software on your computer.
  • Run Troubleshooter: Windows has built-in troubleshooters that can help identify and fix common printer problems. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and run the Printer troubleshooter.
  • Clean Installation: Uninstall any existing HP printer software from your computer. Then, perform a clean installation of the latest drivers and software downloaded from the HP website. Follow the installation wizard carefully, and make sure to install all the necessary components, including the printer assistant and scan app.
  • Disable Antivirus/Firewall: Sometimes, antivirus or firewall software can interfere with the installation process. Temporarily disable your antivirus/firewall software while installing the printer software. Remember to enable it afterward.
  • Check for Windows Updates: Ensure that your Windows operating system is up-to-date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, and check for any available updates. Install any pending updates and restart your computer if required.
  • HP Print and Scan Doctor: HP provides a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor, which can help identify and resolve common printing and scanning problems. Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP support website.

By following these steps, you should be able to address the installation issues and successfully install the HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer software, including the printer assistant and scan app, on your Windows computer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
