M1005 MFP

I have been using the M1005 MFP for just about three years now and am suddenly faced with an issue.

My printer, at random, will print the first page of the document and stop printing the remaining pages. the remaining pages will show as pending in the printer queue, along with other documents, if any. Coupled with this, the printer & devices under control panel shows the printer (Eg M1005) as offline, and creates a new device (eg. M1005 Copy 1) which is online. Sometimes both these devices are visible simultaneously, sometimes just the latter.

In either case, even if I give a new print of another document on the supposedly 'M1005 Copy 1' device, it will not print any page. The printer then sometimes, at random again and not always, prints the pending documents (probably after a re-start of the device from power supply). I am not sure whether it prints documents from the queue of 'M1005' or 'M1005 Copy 1' device.

I have reinstalled the entire printer, updated the driver, cleared. the cache, tried the HP Doctor App, and even installed a new OS on my system, but the problem will not resolve.

Hi @Anant97,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP M1005MFP printer is experiencing issues with its connectivity and driver recognition. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve these issues.

Remove Duplicate Printer Entries

  1. Open Devices and Printers: Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Remove Duplicate Printers: Right-click on the duplicate printer entry (e.g., "M1005 Copy 1") and select "Remove device."
  3. Set the Default Printer: Right-click on the original "M1005" printer and select "Set as default printer."

Clear Print Queue

  1. Stop Print Spooler: Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter. Find "Print Spooler" in the list, right-click on it, and select "Stop."
  2. Delete Print Queue Files: Go to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS and delete all files in this folder.
  3. Start Print Spooler: Return to the Services window, right-click on "Print Spooler," and select "Start."

Update Printer Driver

  1. Uninstall Current Driver: In Devices and Printers, right-click on your M1005 printer and select "Remove device." Then go to Device Manager (right-click Start button and select "Device Manager"), find your printer under "Printers," right-click, and select "Uninstall device."
  2. Download Latest Driver: Go to the HP Support website and download the latest driver for your M1005MFP printer.
  3. Install New Driver: Run the downloaded driver file and follow the installation instructions.

Check Printer Status and Settings

  1. Check Printer Status: Ensure the printer is not set to "Use Printer Offline." In Devices and Printers, right-click on your printer and make sure "Use Printer Offline" is not checked.
  2. Restart Printer: Turn off your printer, unplug it from the power source for a few minutes, and then plug it back in and turn it on.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  1. Download and Run HP Print and Scan Doctor: Download the tool from the HP Support website and run it. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and fix printer issues.

Check Network and USB Connection

  1. Check USB Cable: Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer. Try using a different USB cable if possible.
  2. Check Network Settings: If the printer is connected to a network, ensure that it has a stable connection. You may need to reconfigure the network settings on your printer.

Firmware Update

  1. Update Printer Firmware: Go to the HP Support website and check if there is a firmware update available for your printer model. Follow the instructions to update the firmware.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue with your HP M1005MFP printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi,

I have tried all the suggestions that you have mentioned below. The cable is brand new and the network settings are also completely fine. Nothing is resolving this issue. Even the firmware of the printer is up to date.

Please advise if there are any other alternatives.

Thank you.
