Just set up a Smart Tank 5100 and it all works. However there is a constant beep I can't remove.  Only way to stop it is to turn off the printer.

Also, separate issue, the driver on my MacBook laptop doesn't seem to have the ability to direct it to print in colour.  It does on my iPhone.

Hi @davcbus,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To address the issues you're facing with your Smart Tank 5100 printer, here are some steps and considerations for each problem:

Constant Beeping Noise

Check Error Messages: The constant beep might be an indicator of an error or warning. Check the printer's display for any error messages or warning icons. Resolving the displayed issue might stop the beeping.

Paper Jam or Low Ink: Ensure there's no paper jam and check ink levels. Sometimes printers beep to indicate these issues even if there's not a clear message displayed.

Firmware Update: The printer might need a firmware update. Visit the HP website, find the support section for your printer model, and check for any available firmware updates. Updating the firmware can resolve issues that cause unnecessary beeping. https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Reset Printer: Try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This can sometimes clear up any glitches causing the beeping.

On the printer control panel, press and hold the Information button for 5 seconds until all control panel buttons turn on. Open ink access door. Press and hold the Information and Cancel buttons for 3 seconds. After about 20 seconds, close the ink access door.

Driver Issue on MacBook

The inability to print in color from your MacBook while being able to do so from your iPhone suggests a driver or settings issue on the MacBook.

Update Printer Driver: Ensure that the printer driver on your MacBook is up to date. Visit the Hp  website, find the drivers section, and download the latest driver for your printer model and macOS version.

Check Printer Settings: In the print dialog on your MacBook, check the printer settings to ensure that it's set to print in color. Sometimes the settings might default to grayscale or black and white, and you need to manually select color printing.

Remove and Re-add Printer: Try removing the printer from your MacBook's list of printers and then adding it again. This can sometimes resolve communication issues between the printer and the computer.

Check for macOS Updates: Ensure your MacBook is running the latest version of macOS. Sometimes compatibility issues between the operating system and printer drivers can cause functionality problems like this.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
