HP OfficeJet Pro 9023 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I tried everything (except factory resetting my PC and clean install of windows) and I always get "driver is unavailable" when trying to install my HP printers (both 9023 and 4650). I did uninstall and install of the printers, HP smart app, windows update, including optional updates, manual install of drivers from HP downloads, HP doctor,... everything, and nothing works. I should mention it is working on other PCs I have. it is only this NUC PC I have (gen 11). Any ideas before completely wiping off my PC and starting all over?

Hi @Shabam ,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you've already tried many of the standard troubleshooting steps. Given that the issue is isolated to your NUC PC, here are a few more steps you might try before resorting to a complete factory reset:

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Ensure that your Windows 11 installation is fully updated. Sometimes, updates can fix compatibility issues.

Remove Old Drivers Completely:

  • Go to Device Manager (right-click the Start button and select Device Manager).
  • Look for any remnants of previous HP printer drivers under Printers or Print Queues.
  • Right-click and select Uninstall device. Make sure to check the option to delete the driver software if available.
  • Reboot your PC and try installing the drivers again.

Install Drivers in Compatibility Mode:

  • Download the latest drivers from HP's website.
  • Right-click the driver installer and select Properties.
  • Go to the Compatibility tab and select Run this program in compatibility mode for. Choose Windows 10 or an earlier version that worked for your printer before.
  • Run the installer and see if it resolves the issue.

Run the Printer Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Select Printer and run the troubleshooter to see if it can detect and fix any issues.

Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Ensure there are no other software or drivers that might be conflicting with the printer drivers.
  • Try performing a clean boot to see if the issue persists:
    • Type msconfig in the Start menu search and press Enter.
    • Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and then click Disable all.
    • Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
    • Restart your PC and try installing the printer again.

Check Network Settings:

  • Since the printers work on other PCs, ensure that there are no network configuration issues on your NUC PC that might be affecting the connection.

BIOS Update:

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS can resolve hardware compatibility issues. Check the manufacturer’s website for any BIOS updates for your NUC PC.
