@Magdalena7, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

The error code OW_4XX_OWSWS00001 typically indicates a connectivity issue during printer setup or registration. Let's walk through the steps to resolve this and get your printer registered and printing.

Update the HP Smart App

Make sure you're using the latest version of the HP Smart app:

  • Visit HP Smart for macOS on the Mac App Store. HP Smart
  • Click Update (or Open if it's already up to date).

Check Printer Setup Readiness

Ensure the printer is physically ready:

  • Remove all packing materials and tape.
  • Power off, then on the printer.
  • Confirm it's in a ready state (no blinking error lights).

Ensure Network Connectivity

  • Make sure your Mac and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Avoid using guest networks or VPNs during setup.

Retry Setup in HP Smart

  • Open the HP Smart app.
  • If the error persists, click Exit Setup, close the app, restart the printer, and reopen HP Smart to try again.

Remove and Re-add the Printer

If setup still fails:

  • In HP Smart, remove the printer:
    • Click your printer > scroll down > click Remove from app.
  • Then click Add Printer and follow the setup steps again.

Restore Factory Defaults (if needed)

If none of the above works:

  • Restore the printer to factory settings using the HP Smart app or via the printer's embedded web server.
