Been printing with full preference options on this printer for a year. Got new computer with Win 11. Can print but only with highly truncated options--e.g. no "reverse order" availability. Have downloaded all of HP's excessive junk [Content Removed] and still no help. No tech support, not mere driver functionality. Sooooo poor. I'll try to never buy another HP product. Ideas? I just want to print with full options like I always did. Seems to be a simple driver issue but nothing is in the hands of the user with HP.

Hi @User11242024122,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue of limited print preferences on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 with your new Windows 11 computer likely stems from the installation of a generic driver instead of the full-featured driver that unlocks advanced settings like "reverse order." Here are some steps to resolve this:
Step 1: Remove the Current Printer Installation
- Uninstall the current driver:
- Open Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 and click Remove device.
- Delete any remnants:
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Remove any instances of the printer.
- Check the Print Management console (type printmanagement.msc in the Start menu) to delete unused drivers under Drivers.
Step 2: Download and Install the Full-Feature Software
- Go to the HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 Drivers page and download the Full-Feature Software for Windows 11.
- Install the software, ensuring the printer is connected via USB or Wi-Fi during the setup.
Step 3: Manually Add the Printer with the Correct Driver
If the issue persists:
- Add the printer manually:
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers > Add a printer.
- Select The printer that I want isn't listed.
- Choose Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.
- Choose the correct driver:
- Select Use an existing port (e.g., USB001 or the network port for your printer).
- Click Have Disk and browse to the HP driver files installed earlier (often under C:\Program Files (x86)\HP).
- Select your printer model.
Step 4: Access Full Print Preferences
- Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Right-click your printer and select Printer Properties > Advanced.
- Click Printing Defaults to adjust default settings.
- In any print dialog box, click Preferences to confirm that all features are available.
Step 5: Enable Advanced Features
- Right-click the printer in Devices and Printers and select Printer Properties.
- Go to the Advanced tab.
- Ensure Enable Advanced Printing Features is checked.
Step 6: Use the HP Smart App Only for Updates on HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
The HP Smart app can sometimes interfere with driver functionality. Use it only for firmware updates, and rely on direct driver management for printing.
Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer series User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Have already been through most of this multiple times. Are you sure it will work with an ARM based Surface Pro? The download hangs every time and I see others saying the same thing. It appears HP needs an ARM patch?

Sadly you leave out important details so you may have already tried the following: Download the HP SMART Universal Printer Driver and try it. There is an ARM support with this driver although some users have indicated they have had some issues.

This got me part way there--it gave me back a print options dialogue. But alas, it will print nothing. The zip folders have 1,000 files. I used the installer, but never saw a driver that was 8720 and ARM specific. Used the HP auto select to choose driver. Soooo frustrating. My wish, given all the ARM Surface Pros out there that HP would have an installer file, clearly marked (in what is a very confusing website and not user-friendly website) that the user could select. Not available. I hope you can help me further. I await input.
