I am getting the low toner notification popup window way too soon, and I want to just turn these notifications off because they are extremely aggressive, to the point of making me want to get rid of this printer. They come up after every single print job. I cannot find the settings to turn off the notifications. Please help. Thank you.

Hi,

You may change the Low Threshold value as required, to the percentage set to show an alert, also be sure to set the Very low Setting to Continue.

Open the printer software, under Print click on HP Device Toolbox.

Open the System tab and select Supply Settings, then set the Low Threshold (Black Cartridge) to the lowest value:

Below is a screenshot of the setting:

Hi, thanks for your response. I set the low threshold to 1%, but the low toner message continues to come up after every single print job. I believe I can probably print another 20-50 documents before I finally run out of toner, as I am using EconoMode. I do not want to deal with this message appearing another 20-50+ times. How can I completely turn it off?

What is the current percentage remains for the cartridge?

If it is already reached the 1% or less percentage, you cannot avoid the alert unless replacing the cartridge.

Open the HP Device Toolbox and the Click on Supplies Status, then verify the current percentage.

It shows this:

Black Cartridge *
Order ‭17A (CF217A)‬ --%

Status: Very Low
Approximate Pages Remaining †: --
Pages Printed With This Supply †: 666

It appears that the software is unable to determine accurately what percentage is left in the toner cartridge, which is contributing to the problem. Again, I need to be able to turn off this notification because having it pop up after every print job is simply not acceptable. The notification is inaccurate and unhelpful and reduces my productivity; at this point, it's only function is to create annoyance and frustration. Also, I noticed that with most other printers, it is possible to completely turn off the ink notifications. Why is it not so with this printer?

Please advise; thank you.

That means that the toner level is lower than 1%, this is the intention of an empty percentage with a Very Low Status, you cannot bypass any alert till replacing the cartridge.

You cannot completely turn such off for any HP laserjet printer of a similar level, this is as it should, by selecting Continue you may continue printing with the alert shown, but no additional steps required, selecting Prompt requires a confirmation on the printer.

The alert means that the Very Low status has been reached and the Supply Warranty has ended, you may continue working with the cartridge as long as the print quality is acceptable but have a replacement cartridge available, the ink levels are estimated as it listed, it will not be accurate to the level of the exact printout number on such a low level.

You may find its User Guide below, page 133 explain the expected behavior

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05208327.pdf

With a Very Low status you should replace a cartridge and the error is expected to appear, you may keep using it as long as it prints well, but not to disable any such notification, this is well expected as the behavior for current status:

Sometimes in a single day I have 50+ print jobs. I see this message 50 times, one after the other.

Do you really think it is helpful to notify me 50 times, one after the other, that my ink level is getting low? Does this help me in any way? Does this increase my productivity, or decrease it? Does this make me a happy HP customer?

After a total of 1,532 pages, I began to experience a decrease in print quality, and so I changed the cartridge. When I first created this thread, I had printed 666 pages. This means I experienced the Low Toner warning for 866 pages. I had to click 866 times to remove the warning.

In conclusion, the Low Toner warning is wildly inaccurate, unhelpful, productivity-killing, annoying, and needs to be turned off. A firmware update that allows me to completely turn off the Low Toner warning is needed asap.
