I have a brand new Laser Jet Pro M14-M17 and cannot seem to get it to get setup with my machine. I have a USB connection with the cable that was provided, and even manually added the printer to my "Devices & Printers" when connecting with the USB cable did not warrant any type of auto-setup. After getting through all of the setup, I was asked to print a test page, which I did, but nothing ever printed. And upon subsequent attempts to print other items, those did not print either.
I checked the printer's queue and there are items in there, but the very first item says "Error" but with no further description.
I'm kind of at a loss as to how a brand new printer could be so difficult to get setup and use.
What else am I missing?

@Derek-MI, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let us first print a test page to check the hardware functionality:
-
Turn on the printer.
-
Press and hold the Resume/Cancel button
on the printer control panel, and then release it when the Ready light
blinks.
The Configuration Report prints.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue
Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.
If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
To know how to connect the printer to your Win PC using a USB, refer to - USB Printer Setup (Windows)
First, install the printer drivers from here.
Connect the cable when prompted by the software.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

The instructions on the different pages of all the different links got very confusing. I ended up downloading I think 2 or 3 different EXEs for driver installation and got half-way into about 2 different setup options, getting stuck at various points with the printer still not being 'recognized'. Then after being distracted and working on something else for a while, I noticed that the printer had suddenly shown up in my "Devices and Printers" page. So I test printed an item just to see if it would work, and it did. The printer is connected via USB cable all said and done, and I have no actual idea how it suddenly started working because I never finished getting through any of the setup wizard prompts I started with originally. So I guess this advice kind of worked, but I don't know exactly what it was that did the trick to be honest.
