Switched from Mac to Mac mini and the printer cannot be found via wifi.  I want to use USB instead of wifi but HP won't provide the software/driver/? to do that, just offers wifi or ethernet.

Hello,

I can walk you through this, but I need a bit more detail first — because on macOS, USB printing works on almost every HP printer, but the HP Smart setup flow hides the USB option unless the printer is detected in a very specific way.

Right now I don’t know which printer you’re using, so I can’t give you the correct USB driver path.

Please confirm:

  1. Printer model (e.g., DeskJet, ENVY, OfficeJet, LaserJet, etc.).

  2. macOS version on your Mac mini (Ventura, Sonoma, etc.).

  3. When you plug the printer in via USB, does the Mac do anything?

    • Show a prompt?

    • Appear in System Settings → Printers & Scanners?

    • Or no response at all?

  4. Did the printer previously connect to Wi-Fi, or is it stuck in a non-setup state?

I am an HP Employee. Although I am speaking for myself and not for HP.
