My printer is connected to my Lenovo laptop dock via USB. When I try to print a document, the print order gets sent, but nothing prints until I pull out the USB cable and plug it back in. Then one page prints fine. If I request multiple pages, I must pull the USB cable out and reinsert it for each and every page. The driver installed is the HP LaserJet 1022 ClassDriver. I read that this driver is unstable. I can't see how to get a different driver. The printer works fine when I plug it into my MacBook but not with my Lenovo laptop.

Hi @LAB20CV

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for your detailed explanation and for already identifying the Class Driver as a possible concern. I truly appreciate your effort in narrowing this down.

To resolve the issue where your HP LaserJet 1022 only prints one page at a time on Windows 11, you’ll need to replace the Class Driver with a more stable alternative and adjust the USB printing behavior.

Let’s walk through a more reliable setup that should restore smooth, uninterrupted printing.

Step 1: Remove the current Class Driver

  1. Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
  2. Right-click on the HP LaserJet 1022 and select Remove device.
  3. Disconnect the USB cable from your laptop dock.

Step 2: Download and install the HP LaserJet 1020/1022 Host-based Plug and Play driver

Visit the official HP driver page:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-1020-printer-series/439423

Under Software and Drivers, select Windows 11 as your operating system if not auto-detected.

Download the HP LaserJet Host-based Plug and Play Basic Driver.

Extract the downloaded file to a known folder (e.g., Desktop).

Step 3: Manually install the driver

  1. Reconnect the printer via USB.
  2. Open Device Manager (right-click Start > Device Manager).
  3. Expand Printers or Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  4. Right-click on HP LaserJet 1022 (or unknown device if not named) and select Update driver.
  5. Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
  6. Navigate to the folder where you extracted the driver files.
  7. Select Next and allow Windows to install the driver.

Step 4: Set the correct port and test

  1. Go back to Devices and Printers, right-click the printer, and select Printer properties.
  2. Under the Ports tab, ensure the correct USB port is selected (e.g., USB001).
  3. Under the Advanced tab, uncheck Enable bidirectional support.
  4. Click Apply, then OK.

Now try printing a multi-page document. The printer should respond without needing to replug the USB cable.

Optional: Use a direct USB port instead of dock

Some docking stations may introduce communication delays or power inconsistencies. If the issue persists, try connecting the printer directly to your laptop’s USB port to isolate the dock as a variable.

You're doing all the right things by investigating the driver and setup. With these steps, your LaserJet 1022 should print reliably on Windows 11. If you’d like help testing the new setup or configuring preferences in the HP App, I’d be glad to assist further.
