@CheOmega, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If you're having trouble getting your HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer's scanner to work on macOS, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can take. Here's a guide to help you get it up and running:
Download Latest HP Software
HP Easy Start: This is HP's installation tool that automatically downloads and installs the latest driver and software for your printer.
Visit HP's support page for LaserJet Pro M1536dnf and download HP Easy Start.
Run the installer, and it should automatically detect your printer and install the required drivers for scanning and printing.
Alternatively, download drivers directly from the HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf support page.
Use HP App
Since you mentioned the HP app from the App Store doesn't work, ensure that you're using the latest version of the app.
Try reinstalling the HP app: HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
Install HP Printer Drivers Manually
If the above options don't work, try manually installing the printer drivers.
Go to HP Drivers & Downloads and enter your printer model (LaserJet Pro M1536dnf).
Download the macOS driver package (latest version).
Run the installer, and ensure to follow the steps to add the printer and scanner to your system.
Reset Printer Settings on macOS
Reset the printing system:
Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
Right-click in the printer list and select Reset printing system.
This will remove all printers and scanners from the system, allowing you to start fresh.
Re-add your HP printer after resetting, which should automatically find the necessary drivers.
Check Scanner Settings
After installing the drivers, ensure the scanner is detected:
Go to Preview or Image Capture on your Mac.
Ensure the HP printer is listed as a scanner option under Devices.
If not, try adding it manually from the Printers & Scanners settings.
Check macOS Permissions
macOS may sometimes block devices or software from working correctly due to privacy and security settings.
Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy tab.
Ensure that Preview or any scanning software has Full Disk Access and Camera permissions.
If you use the HP Smart app, ensure it also has the necessary permissions.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
I have mac OS Tahoe 26.0.1 after the last three OS updates the scanner does not work
Only works on VueScan
HP Easy Start -->
HP scanner does not show up in Bonjour even thought it’s activated
HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP --> Advanced --> Enabled Features --> Bonjour (Checked)
Use HP App -->
Signed in --> but will not install printer driver
For scanning --> most of the time it gives an error at the middle of a scan
Install HP Printer Drivers Manually
--> Was not able to find a driver for mac OS only available drivers are for Windows OS and Linux
MacOS Permissions checked and correct
I hope you can help me finding a driver for my HP 1536 for Mac OS Tahoe 26.0.1

Thank you for your reply.
There is no problem with the printer, only that there is no driver that support this printer for the new Mac OS...
When using HP App this fault occur at the middle of the scan
Only with the new Mac OS HP does not provide an up to date driver and software for this printer...
Third party software like VueScan works perfectly for scanning... So why the manufacturer does not provide a working software for this printer on the latest Mac OS... why only for windows?!
