Just Lost count how many times I've done your recommended list of solutions with no luck, I'm using window 11 pro, and both printers is showing under imagine devise in devise manager, but made it work by using the older Printer Driver Dated back to year 2020 instead of the year 2026 Driver!! Go Wonder 🙂
-HP LJ M139M142(USB) (Used older driver makes it work)
-NPI784A9A (HP LaserJet MFP 141w)
Thank you, problem solved

Hi @Freddyb1966,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I understand that your HP LaserJet MFP M141w scans correctly over Wi-Fi but does not scan when connected through USB. You have already tried different USB cables and ports, updated the firmware, and installed the available HP drivers and software.
The HP LaserJet MFP M141w does support scanning through HP LaserJet Software Scan or TWAIN/WIA-compatible software, so scanning is not limited to Wi-Fi only.
Since the scanner works over Wi-Fi, I recommend resetting the USB installation and allowing Windows to detect the scanner again.
Remove the printer from Device Manager
- Disconnect the USB cable from the printer.
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- Double-click Imaging Devices.
- Right-click the HP printer name, and then select Uninstall device to confirm the uninstall.
- Uninstall any other instances of the printer in the list.
- Double-click Printers, and then uninstall any instances of the printer, if present.
We recommend removing the printer from Device Manager and reinstalling the latest driver when troubleshooting a USB scanner connection.
Reinstall the HP software
Restart the computer, but do not reconnect the USB cable yet.
Download and install the latest software and drivers for the HP LaserJet MFP M141w from the official HP driver page:
HP LaserJet MFP M141w Software and Drivers
Follow the installation instructions and connect the USB cable only when prompted during the setup.
After the installation is complete, try scanning again through the HP scanning software or a TWAIN/WIA-compatible scanning application.
If USB scanning still does not work after a clean USB installation, please let us know your Windows version and whether the HP LaserJet MFP M141w appears under Imaging Devices in Device Manager when connected through USB. This will help determine whether Windows is detecting the scanner component of the printer correctly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀
