After installation on Mac with HP smart, the printer works correctly via Wi-Fi but not via USB, which is annoying when there is no network. HP smart indicates that installation is possible via Ethernet but not via USB. Any idea for a solution? Thank you very much.

@JPL98, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP LaserJet MFP M141w printer works correctly via Wi-Fi but encounters issues when connected via USB, there are a few steps you can take to resolve the problem.
Ensure Proper Connection:
- Verify that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the computer.
- Only use certified Hi-Speed USB 2.0 cables.
Check USB Ports:
- Try connecting the USB cable to a different USB port on your Mac.
- Ensure the USB ports are functioning correctly by testing with another USB device.
Restart Devices:
- Restart both the printer and the Mac to refresh their connection.
Reinstall HP Smart and Printer Drivers:
- Uninstall the HP Smart app from your Mac.
- Download and reinstall the latest version of the HP Smart app from the Apple App Store.
- Ensure you download and install any specific drivers for USB connectivity from HP Support.
Wi-Fi Setup Mode:
- If the printer was set up in Wi-Fi mode initially, you might need to reset the printer's network settings to change the connection type. Follow the instructions in the HP Smart app or printer manual to switch the printer back to USB mode.
Check for Updates:
- Ensure both your Mac and printer firmware are up to date. Firmware updates for the printer can be found on HP's official support page.
I hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, Garp, but it's too general.
The problem isn't with the cable or the computer, as I tried it on two different workstations.
As previously mentioned, the HP Smart app doesn't offer USB configuration, only Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
If I try to get the printer recognized by the Mac without going through HP Smart (it appears to be connected via USB), a generic driver is installed, but the printer doesn't respond to the signals it sends.
And there's no specific Mac driver to download for this printer on the HP website.

Hey @JPL98,
Thank you for your response
Let's try these:
Add the Printer Manually
Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners on your Mac.
Click the "+" to add a printer.
If the printer appears, choose it. If it doesn’t show up correctly, choose "AirPrint" or "HP LaserJet" as the printer driver.
Try HP Easy Start
Download HP Easy Start from HP’s website.
Run it to install the proper drivers for your printer, and follow the steps.
Try Printing from a Different App
Try printing from one of these apps to see if the printer responds.
I hope this helps.
