HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf Multifunction Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Error to reboot appears when trying to run the "hp_M1530_MFP_full_Solution_22049.exe" from the HP support site.
I found a post by chrislim2888 on 05-24-2016 08:54 PM.  (it has a screenshot of my error)

When I tried running under the net. administrator account he described, it fails immediately at the extract (or launching the installer), so I never get to the other steps (after the plug in the USB cable) to try the rest of his solution.

However, if I plug in the USB cable, windows will see the printer and install some drivers from Windows update. The laserjet 1536 appears in my devices and I can print to it. I can also scan from it, using a windows scan program. The problem is none of the HP tools recognize the printer: HP Smart, HP scan, Print and scan doctor etc. They just sit spinning searching for the printer.

Hi @fred64,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I’m sorry you’re encountering this frustrating issue with your HP LaserJet Pro M1536dnf. It’s especially disappointing when things don’t work as expected, despite your efforts to resolve the problem. Let’s get this sorted out.

  • Have you tried downloading the installation file from a different browser or network to ensure it's not corrupted during the download?
  • Are you running the installation on a fully updated version of Windows, and have you disabled antivirus software temporarily to prevent interference?
  • Does the issue persist if you try running the installer in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows?

Let's try these steps.

Redownload the Installer:

  • Go to the HP Support page for your printer and redownload the latest "Full Solution" software.
  • Ensure your internet connection is stable, and use a different browser if possible.

Run Installer as Administrator:

  • Right-click the downloaded file (hp_M1530_MFP_full_Solution_22049.exe) and select Run as Administrator.
  • If the issue persists, try running it in compatibility mode:
    • Right-click the file, go to Properties > Compatibility, and select an older version of Windows like Windows 7 or 8.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Even though it spins when searching, try the HP Print and Scan Doctor:
    • Download and run the tool from HP's website.
    • When the tool starts spinning, ensure the USB connection is secure and reboot the printer to trigger recognition.

Manually Add the Printer to HP Tools:

  • Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers and ensure the printer is listed.
  • Open any HP tool like HP Smart or HP Scan, select Add Printer, and manually enter the printer’s IP address or USB connection.

Extract Files and Run Manually:

  • Instead of running the installer directly, extract the contents:
    • Use a tool like WinRAR or 7-Zip to extract the .exe file.
    • Inside the extracted folder, find the Setup.exe or similar file and run it.
    • If the extraction step fails, redownload or try another unzip tool.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, the installer file might not be fully compatible with your current Windows setup.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
